Improve the quality of teaching to good or better through:  Teaching Assistants  What we have done so far  Skills audit  Tailor made training through Inset/CP  Listened and acted upon suggestions of how to be more effective with time  Drop ins  Lesson Observations  Since 28.2.13  Guided Reading CPD  Governor/Acting Head drop in

Improve the quality of teaching to good or better through:  Teaching Assistants  Impact  Effective use of Teaching Assistants  We know this because:  Drop ins – Mrs Thorne, Mrs Brooker and HMI  Lesson Observations – Literacy Subject Leaders.  Since 28.2.13  Effective use of Teaching Assistants has continued.  Teaching Assistants are now clear about their role as well as the expectations of leading a Guided Reading session with a group of children.

Improve the quality of teaching to good or better through:  Levelling Work  Teachers working in pairs to ensure the levels are accurate in reading, writing and numeracy.  Pupil Progress Meeting with every class teacher.  Drop ins and lesson observations to identify the challenge within lessons.  Since 28.2.13  All the above has continued.  External Moderation has taken place with KS1 and before the end of the month with KS2.

Improve the quality of teaching to good or better through:  Next steps:  Children’s levels on planning – Since 28.2.13, this is now evident in all Literacy and Numeracy planning across the School.  Drop in focussing on work matched to the pupils’ differing abilities – Since 28.2.13, work is matched more closely in 5/7 classes and we are supporting the other staff.

Improve the quality of teaching to good or better through:  Marking  Reviewed the marking policy  Agreed marking codes in every classroom  Book scrutiny  Non-negotiable list for Literacy and Numeracy books.  Further opportunities to scrutinise books  Since 28.2.13  Books are being scrutinised by Subject Leaders on a monthly basis.

Improve the quality of Leadership and Management through:  Literacy and Numeracy Subject leaders checking the pupils’ progress  Active involvement in completing Pupil Progress Meetings  Challenge class teachers through questioning within the meeting.  Review and support any barriers to the learning with groups of pupils.  Creating a report for the Education Committee so the staff are being held to account by Governors.  Since 28.2.13  Book and planning are being scrutinised on a monthly basis and this is reported back to the Senior Management Team.

Improve the quality of Leadership and Management through:  Impact with Subject Leaders  As a result of conducting Pupil Progress Meetings with the SLT, the leaders have a deeper understanding of progress across the school.  The effectiveness of the Subject Leaders to improve the standards of learning have now increased as they are able to act upon areas discussed in the meetings.  Since 28.2.13  Subject Leaders are taking on more responsibility in monitoring and supporting staff to ensure consistency across the School.

Improve the quality of Leadership and Management through:  Ensuring that the Governors use the information they receive from the school to check that teaching and pupils’ achievement are improving  Report for Education Committee  Increased challenge to the Head/Deputy through questioning  Designated action plan meetings therefore the number of meetings have increased.  Governor Monitoring in school has increased further.  Meetings with HMI  Professional Development including monitoring and evaluating courses  Governor Monitoring document

Improve the quality of Leadership and Management through:  Impact of Governors  What has been implemented so far has been facilitated/supported and challenged by the Governors.

Where next?  HMI visiting this month  Finalising end of year levels with children.  Review day conducted by North Somerset.  Action Plan created for the next academic year.  Governor Review
