Catch Up Funding Payments were made to local authorities on 31 January 2013 and to academies and Free Schools on 1 February 2013. Expectation that the funding will be directed to additional literacy and numeracy catch-up support during Year 7 The funding is not ring-fenced Schools should make decisions about how it is best used in the context of their existing strategies to help underperforming students catch up. GCSE Reform Plans to have a single exam board will not proceed – instead existing GCSEs will be reformed Qualifications should be linear, with all assessments normally taken at the end of the course. Examinations will have fewer bite-sized and overly structured questions, and in mathematics there should be a greater emphasis on quantitative problem-solving. GCSEs will not force students to choose between higher and foundation tiers, for example, extension papers offering access to higher grades alongside a common core. GCSE Mathematics: 2012 reforms March 2013 – Last March GCSE exam series. November 2013 – Last availability of modular GCSE exams. Regulation to ensure November is resits only??? Summer 2014 – All GCSE assessment to be linear. Edexcel will be offering Specification B with linear assessment. Specification A [1MA0] will be unchanged. Early entry will still be available, where appropriate. Students will be allowed to re-take linear GCSEs where appropriate.
