Our Mission: Develop students who: Are responsible and engaged community members Demonstrate initiative, persistence, and adaptability Are curious and value risk taking as part of the learning process Access and analyze information and formulate opinions Communicate effectively Work individually and on teams to solve real world problems

Priority 1 (page 4-5 of the Strategic Plan) Shared Vision, Mission and Strategic Plan Rationale: If we create an inspiring and shared vision and aligned strategic plan, then all members of our community will be eager to align their collective and individual efforts to accomplishing our shared goals. Strategies: 1)Collaboratively develop and communicate a shared vision and mission that has high expectations for children and clearly communicates what Naugatuck Public Schools is striving to become 2)Develop a Strategic Plan that will ensure the entire system is working toward accomplishing the vision and mission

Priority 2 (page 6-9 of the Strategic Plan) Create a rigorous Academic Program with a focus on Continuous Improvement of Teaching and Learning Rationale : If we create a professional culture in our district that values and structures learning and collaboration at all levels of the system; and sets high standards for teaching and learning; and strengthens the capacity of educators to meet the needs of students, then our students will continue to meet or exceed our high expectations. Strategies: 1)Create a professional culture relentlessly focused on improving teaching and learning 2)Develop, implement and systematically evaluate and improve curriculum, assessment, instructional and intervention expectations 3)Develop and evaluate the capacity of leaders, teachers and staff to improve district, school and student performance indicators

NHS will focus on Teaching & Learning: Professional Learning Communities Literacy & Numeracy Curricula, Instruction, Assessments Data Teams Developmental Assets PLC on new lesson plan template aligned to TEVAL

Priority 3 (page 10-12 of the Strategic Plan) Create a safe and respectful environment throughout the district and in every school that supports continuous improvement of teaching and learning Rationale: If we create positive school climates that foster high expectations through caring and supportive relationships, then students and teachers will set ambitious goals and work together to accomplish them Strategies: 1)Ensure safe and positive learning culture 2)Maintain and improve our school buildings and grounds 3)Ensure equipment and technology resources are allocated to support strategic plan

NHS will create a climate in which all students will attend and be engaged in their learning: Attendance: 28% chronically absent Discipline: over 800 reportable offenses Failure rate: 33% of freshmen are failing Adults to mentor/monitor Technology Security features Equipment Technology Everywhere!

Priority 4 (page 13-15 of the Strategic Plan) Create an organizational system that functions in support of the Strategic Plan Strategies: 1)Clear Organizational Structure with aligned policies, procedures, communication and access to information 2)Develop district budget that aligns with strategic priorities 3)Develop human resource system that attracts, hires and retains highly effective leaders, teachers and staff Rationale: If we organize the work of the district and allocate resources to support our teaching and learning priorities, then we will work collaboratively and more efficiently and accomplish our goals

NHS will create an organization system that will implement and monitor this plan by: Shared leadership model Shared drives Transparent budget process New hires Teacher leaders.

Priority 5 (page 16-17 of the Strategic Plan) Family and Community Engagement Rationale: If we develop trusting relationships with our families and partner with our community, then we will have the greatest chance of supporting the needs of our children so they meet our high expectations and be ready for life success Strategies: 1)Provide information and opportunities for parents to support student learning 2)Use multiple modes of communication and feedback to build relationships with families and community members 3)Develop community partnerships to collaboratively address the needs of the district
