5 1.No Provisional Iraqi Government -Elections for the National Assembly of Iraq were held on January 30, 2005 in Iraq. The 275-member National Assembly was a parliament created under the Transitional Law during the Occupation of Iraq. 2. deBa’athification of the Iraqi Culture, government and economy -This policy of “deBa’athification“, now widely seen as having created bitter, new divisions in the country, and fuelling the violence that has torn Iraq apart, was reversed in January 2008. 3. Disbanding the Iraqi Military -After two protesters were killed by U.S. troops, the CPA agreed to pay up to 250,000 former soldiers a stipend of $50 to $150 a month.

6 In February and March 2009, the Obama Administration announced its plans to increase troop levels in Afghanistan and decrease troop levels in Iraq. In Afghanistan, 30,000 more troops are deploying this year while in Iraq, troops will gradually decline from 50,000 to 35,000 by August 31, 2011 with all troops to be out of Iraq by December 31, 2011. Troop Levels The surge had been developed under the working title "The New Way Forward" and it was announced in January 2007 by Bush during a television speech. Bush ordered the deployment of more than 20,000 soldiers into Iraq, five additional brigades, and sent the majority of them into Baghdad. The “Surge”

David Taylor Miller Miller was killed in action on June 21 when a suicide bomber attacked his unit in Lar Sholtan Village, Afghanistan. Nineteen-year-old Miller was a member of the 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division. In 2009 he graduated from Saratoga Springs High School, where he played varsity football and excelled in many subjects.
