5 And now Greece needs help.  The debt is huge. Viable ? No!  ECB (European Central Bank)  EC (European Commission)  IMF (International Monetary Fund) Thus European Union created:  EFSF  ESM

6 Banks are very important. Why? rreverse selection mmoral hazard Behavior when in danger! WWhat? Asymmetric information problem WWhen? Before transaction NNon creditworthiness units act unexpectedly effectively to be financed with a loan (Mishkin, 1996)

7 Banks “suffer”… tthe further reduced rate of growth, tthe increase in lending rates, tthe reduce of economic activities, IIncreasing delay in payments of loans.

8 Stress Tests.  Deficiency of loaning capitals.  6.4 billion Euros.  Peireos 425 million  Alpha 262 million  Ethniki 2.183 million

9 Where will they find these amounts?  1 st to lose are the shareholders  Creditors or bond holders  Uninsured deposits (over 100.000)  Eventually all the deposits The bail in.

10 HFSF. (Hellenic Financial Stability Fund)

11 What about the future?  Is really HFSF necessary?  Private businesses. Why belong to the state?  Bureaucracy.  What about the European capital and money market?
