1. Exercise the Golden Rule. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you! If you wouldn’t speak to the person that way face to face, then don’t do it online. http://www.psychologytoday.com

2. Remember, everything you post online is public. It doesn’t matter whether or not you delete the message or text. Once it’s out, it’s traceable.

3. Don’t use all caps. This means that you are shouting!

4. Speak kindly. It may look like a screen in front of you, but there’s another person on the receiving end.

5. Don’t post things when you’re angry. Take time to clear your head. Refrain from saying something you’ll regret later.

6. Use different usernames and passwords. If someone gets your password, they’ll have access to everything. Don’t use the same word for both username and password.

7. Don’t use inappropriate email addresses. You will use your email address for college and job applications. Does your email address give a good impression? sexybabe@gmail.com may not be a good choice. sexybabe@gmail.com

8. Don’t post pictures of yourself or others unless you want them to be seen by your parents, etc. Be very selective of what you post. Always have your parents review before you post. If you are posting a picture with a friend in it, check with their parents before posting.

9. Don’t talk to strangers. Don’t reveal any confidential information (first or last name, age, school, birth date, phone number, address, etc.) The person you are chatting with may be a phony! http://www.netsmartz.org/reallifestories/trackingteresa
