6TH Grade Middle School Todd will start us off and introduce everyone. Let’s have everyone up by the stage.

8 Choices for 6th Grade Core Classes
81% of 6th grade students are taking PAP classes CTMS is leading the district in students taking PAP classes Pre-Advanced Placement Regular Pre-AP Language Arts (GT version also) Language Arts Pre-AP Math Math Pre-AP Science Science Pre AP World Cultures and Geography World Cultures and Geography 2014 – 2015 --74% of all students at CTMS take PAP classes --81% of 6th graders take PAP classes --68% of 7th graders take PAP classes --73% of 8th graders take PAP classes

11 ELECTIVES Fine Arts Electives - Band, Orchestra, or Choir
All 6th grade students will receive 2 electives chosen from the following: Fine Arts Electives Students must choose one elective from: - Band, Orchestra, or Choir 2nd General Elective Choices: - Technology Class - Intro to Theatre - Intro to Art - Teen Leadership

12 Band and Orchestra Instrument Drives No reservations needed; show up to try various instruments for comfort and fit. Orchestra April 28 6:00 – 8:00 pm Wilson MS May 5 CTMS May 7 Pike MS Band April 6th 5:00 – 8:00 pm CTMS April 11th 9:00 am – 12:00 noon

13 All 6th graders take PE. 46 minute class PE outfit - $16
Write you sizes on your course request form. Athletics starts in 7th grade. (football, volleyball, basketball, track, tennis, cross-country running, soccer & cheerleading.)

14 New Dell Tablets for 6th graders
Each NISD middle school student will be issued a tablet at the beginning of the year. Insurance is available (highly encouraged.) Tablet = textbooks and are used as instructional tools.

16 Tablets… What access do they have?
All students have access but can only send and receive from Student have live access to their grades online. ePortfolios Almost all school work is downloaded & uploaded to netschool.

17 Cafeteria - LUNCH You do get to chose where you sit in the cafeteria. This is very exciting for our new 6th graders! There are three lines to chose from in the cafeteria. First Week of School

18 Success in middle school involves much more than just good grades!
Success in 6th grade STUDENTS Use your Dell Tablet for organization. Turn in assignments on time Attend tutorials when needed. Form bonds with teachers and staff Ask questions for help when necessary. Maintain a well-rounded schedule which includes extra-curricular activities. Time Management and Organization

22 LOCKERS Every student will be assigned their own locker.
Lockers have assigned combinations. You will have MANY opportunities to practice your combination BEFORE school starts next year. You WILL have trouble with your locker! DON’T WORRY… We will help you!

Less is More. Small Back Pack. Have a book you are reading. Binder (2”-3”) – w paper Dividers with pockets Pencils / pens Dell Tablet Student ID- (Library – lunch – everything) That’s all you need: Daily.

24 PUP CAMP!! We will have our annual Pup Camp in August! This is a chance for you to pick up your schedule, practice opening your locker, and get to know your teachers! This is also a great time to meet some new friends! More details to come this summer!
