Texas Education Agency Changes at TEA Robert Scott was named Commissioner of Education by Governor Rick Perry on Tuesday, October 16, 2007 Julie Brelsford joined the Curriculum Team as Assistant Director of Social Studies on October 1, 2007. Brenda Tingle will have several job postings in Assessment in the near future.

Texas Education Agency Graduation Graduation Plan name change for Minimum Plan was withdrawn by member proposing to rename it the Standard Plan TEA has received some calls on Minimum Plan. Goal is for 70% of students to graduate on Recommended or Distinguished Achievement Plan

Texas Education Agency Graduation Plans Sophomore, Junior and Senior students should be on Recommended or Distinguished Achievement Plan. Last year’s seniors were last to be on Minimum without appropriate opt out. A student’s graduation plan is determined by the year that the student enters a freshman class.

Establish four subject-specific vertical teams (English, Math, Science, and Social Studies).

Texas Education Agency Textbook Adoption Cycle Proclamation 2010 is being issued for ELAR Elementary Proclamation 2011 ELAR Secondary, except for electives, and Pre-K Social Studies will be K-12 in Proclamation 2013 to be in classrooms in Fall 2013 Bible Literacy will be included in social studies proclamation.

Texas Education Agency SB 1031—EOC Assessments To graduate, students must attain o Cumulative score ≥ 70n o n = number of EOC assessments taken in each subject For students on the Recommended & Distinguished HS Plan, this means, for example US History, World Geography, World History o n = 3 o Cumulative score ≥ 210 For students on the Minimum Plan, this means, for example US History and either World Geography or World History o n = 2 o Cumulative score ≥ 140

Texas Education Agency SB 1031—EOC Assessments Students must score at least 60 in order for it to count towards their cumulative score. Students scoring below 60 shall retake the assessment each time it is administered. Students scoring below 70 will receive accelerated instruction. Any other student may retake an EOC assessment for any reason.

Texas Education Agency SB 1031—EOC Assessments A student’s score on an EOC assessment shall be worth 15% of the student’s final grade for that course A school district is not required to use the student’s score on subsequent administrations to determine the student’s final grade for that course A student is not required to retake a course as a condition of retaking an EOC assessment
