2 What is a Administrative Fellowship? Administrative Fellowship is a program that provides future healthcare executives with opportunities to gain an in-depth understanding of hospital and clinic based healthcare operations in an fast pace environment. Fellows systematically participate in rotations throughout the health system learning each department. Fellows are given the opportunity to take part in hands-on, operationally focused projects and participate in various leadership activities that nurture professional growth. Fellows are personally mentored and molded by senior hospital leadership. Preceptors for the program typically include the hopsitals: CEO, CFO, and COO etc.

3 Advantages of an Administrative Fellowship Main goal for every program is leadership succession. Fellows are considered the future of the organization. Direct reporting relationship to the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer(s), or a member of the senior leadership team who in collaboration with the fellow will develop career and fellowship plans. Personalize your learning curve, area of focus, and career track. Part of a long standing tradition for many Health systems across the US. Administrative Fellows are allowed to travel and attend conferences. Administrative Fellowship Program pays for their fellows to receive their certifications in lean-six sigma, project management etc. Gain exposure to entire Health System from a top down perspective. Personally mentored by hospital senior leadership and C-Suite. Opportunity for career growth is exponential.

19 Application Process the Majority Standard written application Resume Undergraduate and Graduate Transcripts 3 Letter of Recs: 1 academic, 1 professional, 1 Program Director Personal Statement: Why are you interested in healthcare? Why are you interested in Duke University Health System? Why are you interested in a two year fellowship? All applications are review by 1 st year Fellows and they decide who moves on to the next step.

20 Round 1 Interview: The Phone interview INTERVIEW Duration 30-45 minutes 35-50 canidates Interview is conducted by 1 st and 2 nd year fellows. Resume based questions Situational based questions Reserve time for you to ask questions MY PERSONAL ADVICE Research the health system READ about current healthcare events Know yourself and your resume Ask a lot of questions about the fellowship program

21 Round 2: Final/On-Site Interview INTERVIEW 2 day interview process all expensed paid. 10-12 final candidates Day 1 Networking event Welcome presentation and dinner Meet current and previous fellow Meet Hospital leadership and interviewers Day 2 3-5 panel interviews (30 minutes each) Campus tour Lunch MY ADVICE Relax and enjoy the moment This interview is more about cultural fit Evaluate this hospital is right for you Do your research and continue reading current events Research the interviewees background Ask a lot of questions during the interview Dress business professional

22 My Advice Set reliable academic and professional goals from Day 1. Find students who have similar goals and work together. Build your Resume: Internships, entry level jobs, volunteering and community service. Don’t be afraid to do your internship outside of Orlando or Florida Expand your network: Join ACHE, UPD, GHN. Get to know your Faculty and Professors!!!!! Reach out to the current Fellows for hospitals you have interest in. Compile a list of all Fellowship programs 3-4 months before application period opens up. Start preparing your applications 2 months in advance Don’t be afraid of rejection: The entire process is a hit or miss.
