Through critiques and slide presentations students will become familiar with contemporary trends, basic history of photography and become articulate about photographic aesthetics. Equal emphasis is placed on learning technical procedures, understanding photographic esthetics, and the demonstrated ability to implement both in order to make good photographs.

Course Objectives: Upon completion of this course you will be able to: Produce high quality works of art. Explain the theoretical and technical aspects of photography. Be able to frame subject matter, shoot an artistic photograph. Analyze your own and others photography. Evaluation and Assessment will be based upon: Completion and submission of Assignments = 80% Other Assignments & Classroom participation. = 20% Participation in WSCC Student Art Show Extra points!

Turning in work. All work will be submitted on website No work will be accepted after one week of original due date- Late work will drop a letter grade. If you turn it in on time and tried the 1 st time you can make up lowest grade. one time! You can not make up late or missed work. It is up to you to turn in work or find out what you missed – I WILL NOT CONTACT YOU & TELL YOU WHAT YOU MISSED. If you miss a class you miss a lot!

Have a strong main subject or focal Points- No Matter what you are taking a photo of. Ask yourself – What is the main subject of the photo? How can I make it interesting? What is going on in the frame of my photo?

Cloudy day? Is it good to take photos on a cloudy day?

Cloudy Day It is great to take photos on a cloudy overcast day. The clouds diffuse the suns rays and produce even flattering light.

Assignment #1 You will need to produce the following photographs, and upload to the website. Due Jan 29th by Midnight. 5 photos total. – ALL Photos Must Use Either Centered or Rule Of 3rds – At least 3 photos must use rule of 3rds – All photos must be in color – Take or turn date off- No Computer FX – Turn in work as it was taken NO CROPING ON COMPUTER Texture – 1 photo Fill in the frame -1 photo Frame within a frame- 1 photo Line – 1 photo Dramatic Lighting – 1 photo All your photos must show: – a strong Main Subject or Focal point – Good to Great Composition – Your viewer should be able to look at the photo and Know what the main subject is. Must comment on 3 photos!
