AN INTRODUCTION TO THE YOUTH CAREER INITIATIVE What is YCI? YCI is a work and life skills programme. It helps vulnerable young people from disadvantaged backgrounds improve their employability.

AN INTRODUCTION TO THE YOUTH CAREER INITIATIVE How YCI works 24 week training programme. Students train in 15 areas of the hotel. 60% practical training, 40% classroom-based learning.

AN INTRODUCTION TO THE YOUTH CAREER INITIATIVE Staff Time Coordination Director Level: 1-2 hours per month. Programmes Manager: 2 hours per week. Programmes Coordinator: 2 - 3 hours per day. Training To be agreed with hotel, but typically 1 day per week. Can utilise existing training resources. To be agreed with the hotel. Staff to act as mentors to students.

AN INTRODUCTION TO THE YOUTH CAREER INITIATIVE Using hotel training and development courses. Uses hotel training rooms and facilities. Leveraging existing resources In-house trainers and staff knowledge. Access and mobilise networks to support the programme.

AN INTRODUCTION TO THE YOUTH CAREER INITIATIVE Commuting costs and/or access to company travel. Insurance coverage. Support to students Student stipend (if applicable).

AN INTRODUCTION TO THE YOUTH CAREER INITIATIVE Promote the programme to the target group and recruit eligible participants. Non-Profit Partner Role Coordinate the programme using YCI tools and resources. Monitor the programme and student performance. Provision of life skills courses. Support students in securing job placements upon completion of the programme.

AN INTRODUCTION TO THE YOUTH CAREER INITIATIVE Hotels Provide A 24 week training schedule using existing training courses as well as YCI materials. Classroom training: customer services, English lessons, career development. Teaching and mentoring students. Offering job placements if possible. Coordination with non-profit partner, other participating hotels and YCI team.

AN INTRODUCTION TO THE YOUTH CAREER INITIATIVE YCI Provides Online resources. Access to the hotel industry. Partnership brokering expertise. A cross-industry, cross- sector approach. Efficiencies of scale through collaboration. Operational guidance through dedicated regional coordinators. Fundraising resources (available from late 2015). Tools to monitor the programme’s impact on students, graduates and partners.

AN INTRODUCTION TO THE YOUTH CAREER INITIATIVE What Next… A YCI team member will be in touch to arrange a phone call. 1 Non-profit national/local office to confirm commitment, capacity and resources to partner through letter of intent. 2 YCI and non-profit partner undertake reciprocal assessment of respective capacity and experience. 3 Each partner to advise on the outcome of assessment, and confirm willingness to partner. 4
