Why is Work Experience and Work Related Learning important 1.An opportunity for students to experience the positives and negatives of the ‘real world’. 2.Helps to motivate students at school – a sense of direction 3.Students with no work experience will be less successful in job applications 4.Strengthens CVs 5.Try before you buy

Army camp 1.Students have 6 th – 10 th July out of school for EITHER army camp OR work experience 2.Army camp cannot guarantee places 3.ALL students must arrange a work experience placement If army camp place is offered => can do placement during school holidays, or politely write to employer

Things to note: –Students are not permitted to accept wages whilst on work experience as this invalidates the insurance. –Students are expected to work hours typical for that particular organisation – these hours may be longer and/or different to school hours. –Students are expected to comply with the health and safety regulations of the organisations in which they are working and employers will ensure that students are briefed at the beginning of the placement. –Some employers do not take students for work experience. This may be because: - The company will not allow them to - Age restrictions - Confidentiality - CRB

Process between now, the placement and beyond : Students investigate careers Students investigate careers during PSHE Students write to shortlist Students write to some organisations on their shortlist Students hear back Student is offered placement and fills in app form Employer completes section of Work Experience Application form Student sends application form to employer to sign Hand in application form to Mrs Phillips Student hands in application form to Reception SHAPE conduct risk assessment Placement is cleared School gives risk assessment results to student and emails copy home Student considers aims/targets for work experience Parents give final consent, and send in signed form to Reception Complete work experience Students complete work experience Write up skills and experiences Students write up their skills and experiences
