Recent Accomplishments Completed traffic light at Poplar Tree and Lees Corner Road Updated bus route incoming to Brookfield from Route 50 Neighborhood Watch signs posted New bridges across stream - walking path behind pool 10

A Tale of Two Bridges Fairfax County discussed putting a bridge across the Frog Branch Stream Some confusion remains about which span was to be bridged – behind the pool to the RIGHT (towards Lees Corner) or towards the LEFT (towards Stringfellow, behind houses on Tabscott) A gigantic bridge was installed over the span heading towards Stringfellow (LEFT) Other bridge construction is still TBD 11

Sully District Crime Prevention Officer Update 25

Many thanks to Officer Brock, CPO For the last few years, our primary liaison with the police has been Crime Prevention Officer MPO W. M. Brock. Due to budget cuts, Officer Brock leaves this position on November 6, 2009. BCA thanks Officer Brock for his help and service to the community. 26

Introducing Officer Katinsky Officer Peter B. (“Brett”) Katinsky takes over as BCA liaison and crime prevention officer. His first newsletter is posted on our Web site. See our new “Crime Prevention” page. 27

Neighborhood Watch Now Functioning! Neighborhood Watch program running. Volunteers patrol the neighborhood at least 2 evenings a week. New signs posted along Lees Corner Road. Thanks to Lloyd Pierce and for the active trained volunteers for their time. More volunteers needed. TRAINING IS REQUIRED (FREE). 29

Grant Money Available Neighborhood Enhancement Partnership Program $100,000 is available in 2010 for the Neighborhood Enhancement Partnership Program. Awards of up to $5,000 will be made on a one-time basis to selected projects. Need volunteers with grant writing experience, or willingness to be trained, to work on this project. 34

Lee Jackson Highway Cleanup Brookfield Civic Association has adopted the south side portion and median of Route 50 (Lee Jackson Hwy) ◦Spans from Stringfellow Road west to Galesbury Lane Kicking off our adoption with a neighborhood cleanup. Tentative date: Saturday, October 10 from 10am-3pm – check the web site. 44

Brookfield Neighborhood Cleanup 45 Potentially canceled, due to lack of funds. Standing by for more information.

Cleanup Details: Picking up trash Cutting and trimming grass Future - sow seeds to beautify area Must follow Virginia Department of Transportation (DOT) guidelines for cleanup Each volunteer will be briefed No children will be allowed to take part in this effort for obvious safety reasons. 46

You Can Help by Bringing: Gas mowers, trimmers and edgers (all with tanks filled, please) Weed trimmer / bushwacker Rakes, weeders Serious hedge clippers or cutting tools We need equipment and manpower – preferably both, but will take either! 47

2008 Watershed Cleanup During 2008 cleanup, we had ~ 20 participants Prevented hundreds of pounds of pollution from reaching the watershed Collected over 30 full 30-gallon trash bags 49
