Participants will: review STEM Standards of Practice student proficiencies. analyze the STEM Standards of Practice High School Framework. develop an understanding of how to use the High School STEM Standards of Practice Framework in their content area.

Ice Breaker Activity The purpose of this activity is to review STEM Standards of Practice proficiencies and to become acquainted with team members.

43 educators from across the state Educators represented elementary school, middle school, high school, and higher education Multidisciplinary teams (science, career & technology education, mathematics, English Language Arts, social studies, art, physical education, etc.)

STEM Standards of Practice Frameworks: identify what students must know and do to be STEM proficient. are designed to be used with content standards. can be used in any content area. STEM proficient students are prepared for post - secondary study and the 21 st century workforce.

The purpose of this activity is to become familiar with the content and format of the High School STEM Standards of Practice Framework.

Elementary School Middle School High School College & Careers The purpose of this activity is to analyze the developmental progression of essential skills and knowledge.

Read each essential skill and knowledge. Decide in your group which essential skill and knowledge represents K, 2, 5, 8, and 12. Arrange the cards in order from K – 12.

Review the essential skills and knowledge for your assigned STEM Standard of Practice. On the chart paper identify: The content areas of your group members. What a teacher in your content area would need to do to encourage the development of the essential skills and knowledge in students ? How would students demonstrate mastery of the essential skills and knowledge?

STEM Standard of Practice 2: Integrate Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Content Content Area TeacherStudent Essential Skills and Knowledge Foundations of Technology (FOT) Collaborate with teachers in other disciplines to design a lesson focusing on the real world problem of by-catch. Students may use content knowledge from: - FOT to design fishing nets to reduce by-catch. - American Government to analyze the political and economic impact of by- catch. - Biology to analyze the environmental impact of by-catch. Synthesize and employ content knowledge from STEM and other disciplines necessary to generate solutions to real world problems. By-catch: unwanted marine creatures that are caught in the nets while fishing for another species.
