1 Lesson: Pumpkin Launcher Sullins Academy Fall 2012 Science Buddies Project (Fifth Grade and Kindergarten)

2 Overview Students will review simple machines and types of energy. To review simple machines, fifth grade students visited YouTube to watch Simple Machines with Bill Nye and Kindergarten students to watch Sid the Science Kid: Sid’s Amazing Invention. Teams of fifth grade students will follow the engineering design process to build a rubber-band powered catapult that launches marshmallow pumpkins. The catapults will then be tested and data recorded with groups of fifth grade and kindergarten students. Design for the catapult and idea for this lesson came from PBSKids.org Go Fetch
