Standard 5 Identifying cells, tissues, organs, organ systems, organisms, populations, communities, and ecosystems as levels of organization in the biosphere. Aaron & Sahmod
2
Biosphere Are all of the biomes on the planet earth. An example is like, all of earths inhabitants and their habitats.
3
Ecosystems An community and environment functioning all as one. (A community and its non living surroundings. Examples of Ecosystems are wetlands ,and forests.
4
Population A group of organisms of one type staying in the same area. An example is like and herd of cows on a plain.
5
Community Occupants that live together in an defined environment. Examples: Cows, snakes grass, hawk.
6
Organism A single living organism. Example: Humans, Cows, Birds, Trees.
7
Cells A structural unit of all living things. The smallest unit classified as an living organism. Most bacteria are single cell and humans are multi cellular.
8
Tissues Tissues are an ensemble of cells, they are not the same but the are of the same origin, that carries out an function.
9
Organs Organs are groups of tissue that perform different functions. There are many organs in the body like skin, kidney, liver, and etc.
10
Organ Systems Some types of organ systems are, Circulatory, Respiratory, Digestive, Nervous, and Reproductive.
11
Organisms Plants, Animals, Fungi, and microorganisms are organisms because they all consist of an unit called an cell. Some can be divided as single and multi cellular. Based on cell type organisms cell it can be divided in to prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells.
12
Atom An atom is the basic unit of all matter and the smallest particle that maintains its chemical and physical properties. Its is classified by the number of neutrons and protons in its nucleus.
13
Molecule A molecule is made when two or atoms are bonded together. It is also the smallest particle of a substance that retains all of the properties of the substance
14
Organelles An organelle is when several macromolecules form to create this building block of the cell. Examples of organelles is the nucleus, Golgi apparatus, and mitochondria.
15
Macromolecule Macromolecules are formed from two or more molecules bond. Examples of macromolecules are, Lipids, proteins, and carbohydrates.
16
A Pod of bottlenose dolphins living in a specific region can be identified as which level of organization? A. Biosphere B. Ecosystem C. population D. community
17
C population A population is a group of organisms of one type that all live in the same area.
18
A. Organism B. ecosystem C. population D. community
Study the picture below Which level of organization is BEST represented by the entire picture? A. Organism B. ecosystem C. population D. community
19
B ecosystem An ecosystem is a community and its nonliving surroundings as labeled here Air Bird Trees Bushes Grass Water Alligator Fish
20
A group of cells that work together for a common function would MOST LIKELY be described as
A. a tissue B. an organ C. an organelle D. a community
21
A. a tissue A tissue is a small group of cells used to make up organs such as the brain
22
Study the diagram below
Organism Population X Ecosystem Which is a level of organization that could be represented by X? A. Plant B. Animal C. Biosphere D. community
23
D. community On the level of organization scale on page 21 community is between Ecosystem and population
24
Study the picture below
A. Biosphere B. Ecosystems C. Populations D. community Which level of biological organization results from the combination of the living organisms shown in the picture?
25
D. community A community is all living things (plants and animals) that live in a defined area
26
Which figure BEST represents the levels of organization in the ocean?
Community Organism Ecosystem Population B. ecosystem community population organism C. organism population community ecosystem D. population ecosystem organism community
27
B. Ecosystem, Community, Population, Organism
Ecosystem, Community, Population, Organism is the levels of organization in descending order
28
Which sequence correctly identifies the levels of organization in a biosphere from most complex to least complex? A OrganismPopulationCommunityEcosystem B ecosystemcommunitypopulationorganism C communityorganismecosystempopulation D populationecosystemorganismcommunity
29
B. ecosystemcommunitypopulationorganism
An ecosystem is a community and all its surroundings making it the most complex and an organism is one living object making it the simplest
30
Birds observed during one year
Study the tables below. Ospreys, egrets and cranes were observed in an area around a small oxbow lake at Perry Lakes Park in Alabama Which student correctly categorized the observations according to the levels of organization in the biosphere Birds observed during one year Bird Number observed Osprey 63 Egret 85 Crane 22 Student Organisms Population(s) Communities 1 3 2 170 4 A Student 1 B Student 2 C student 3 D student 4
31
C student 3 Since an organism is a single living thing you have to include all of them so =170 and a population is only one type of animal and three birds were being studied there were 3 populations and since a community is all the populations combined there is only 1 community
32
Study the Diagram below
Forests, animals, sunlight, soil, water ^ Oak forest, grey squirrels, deer Oak forest Oak tree Which example below represents the organizational levels shown in the diagram? A Organism B ecosystem C Community D Population ^ ^ ^ ^ Population community Ecosystem Organism Community population Organism Ecosystem Ecosystem organism Population Community
33
B ecosystem community population organism
An ecosystem is a community and its nonliving surroundings. Communities are populations in a defined area. Populations are groups of organisms. An organism is a single living thing.
34
10 Study the picture Which level of organization is BEST represented by the entire picture? A: Population B: Community C: Ecosystem* D: Organism
35
The answer to question is C
The answer to question is C. Ecosystem, because they all are in an community together all as one.
36
11 A scientist studied a coral reef in an ocean. The scientist made a data table to record what was observed. How many populations are represented by the data? Organism/ # observed Sea turtle Sea star Nurse shark 3 Clownfish Parrotfish Sea urchin 25 A: 2 B: 6 * C: 67 D: 101
37
The answer to that question is B
The answer to that question is B. 6 because it asked how many populations, and there are 6 populations. (Sea turtle, Sea Star, Nurse Shark, Clown Fish, Parrotfish, Sea urchin.
38
12 Study the list of terms below. : Lymphocyte : Lung : Tendon : Skeleton A student preparing for a test in human anatomy studied the terms in the list. Which of the following represents a tissue in the human body? A: Lymphocyte B: Lung C: Tendon D Skeleton
39
The answer to that question was C
The answer to that question was C. tendon, because the lung is an respiration organ, an lymphocyte is an type of white blood cell, and an skeleton is an rigid framework that holds up an body.
40
13 : Student Questions A herd of animals in the same area is an example of, Population * Biosphere Organism Ecosystem
41
The answer is A. population because, it is a group of organisms of one type staying in the same area.
42
14: Student Questions What are examples of molecules? Carbon dioxide Nicotine Aspirin All of the above
43
The answer to that question is “all of the above,” because molecules are all of those things, Aspirins came from a similar pain-killing molecule discovered in willow trees. Plants use carbon dioxide to build energy-rich molecules. Nicotine is addictive and a poison. It contains10 black carbon atoms,14 white hydrogen atoms 2 blue nitrogen atoms.
44
15: Student Questions What is the smallest unit of all matter? Cell Atom Molecule macromolecule
45
The answer to that question was B
The answer to that question was B. Atom because, the atom is the basic unit of all matter and the smallest particle that maintains its chemical and physical properties.
