Florida’s Definition of Human Trafficking Section 787.06(2)(d), F.S. “Human Trafficking” means transporting, soliciting, recruiting, harboring, providing (supplying), enticing, maintaining, or obtaining another person for the purpose of exploitation of that person.”

HB 7049 Effective July 1, 2012 Combined all human trafficking categories into one statute. (Ch. 787.06, F.S.) Increased penalties from misdemeanors to felonies. Added terminology for US trafficking victims. Eliminated coercion as requirement. Eliminated transportation as requirement.

HB 1325 Effective January 1, 2014 Authorizes a victim to petition the court for the expunction of any conviction for an offense committed while a victim of human trafficking Survivors with successful petitions will no longer have to disclose arrests and convictions on, applications related to employment, housing, student loans, academic internships, professional licensure, and volunteer opportunities, etc.

Florida Attorney General New Program Attorney General Bondi is joining forces with Florida's business community to stop human trafficking. Businesses are uniquely positioned to help stop human trafficking. Ensure there is no human trafficking within the supply chains Train employees to recognize the signs of human trafficking and to report suspected cases.

FL AG Bondi Program includes all types of business: restaurants, lodging, trucking, agriculture, retail, etc. Toolkit - educational material intended to help businesses create and implement their own zero-tolerance human trafficking plans. Businesses can request assistance with implementation.

Florida Stats The National Hotline (1-888-373-7888) reports in 2012: – There were 240 Florida cases referenced on the hotline, with 90 of those involving children. – About 25% were labor, 75% were sex trafficking – More cases involved US citizens than foreigners – Florida calls to the hot line (1,050) accounted for 5% of the total – Many calls were for information about human trafficking, not reports of cases. – About 40% of the calls were made by community members Source: Polaris Project

More Stats Approximately 40,000 cases are prosecuted a year globally, 6,000 in the US. Low Risk High Profit It generates aproximately $32 billion internationally annually, making it one of the top 3 internataional crimes along with drugs and arms.
