Outline INTRODUCTION METHODOLOGY ANALYTICAL REPORT FINDINGS CONCLUSION

Introduction Microsoft Windows is a series of software operating systems and graphical user interfaces produced by Microsoft. Microsoft first introduced an operating environment named Windows in November 1985 as an add-on to MS-DOS in response to the growing interest in graphical user interfaces (GUIs). Microsoft Windows came to dominate the world's personal computer market, overtaking Mac OS, which had been introduced previously. October 2009, Windows had approximately 91% of the market share of the client operating systems for usage on the Internet The most recent client version of Windows is Windows 7

Introduction Mac OS is the trademarked name for a series of graphical user interface-based operating systems developed by Apple Inc. (formerly Apple Computer, Inc.) for their Macintosh line of computer systems. The Macintosh user experience is credited with popularizing the graphical user interface. The original form of what Apple would later name the "Mac OS" was the integral and unnamed system software first introduced in 1984 with the original Macintosh, usually referred to simply as the System software. Early versions of the Mac OS were compatible only with Motorola based Macintoshes. As Apple introduced computers with PowerPC hardware, the OS was upgraded to support this architecture as well. Mac OS X, which has superseded the "Classic" Mac OS, is compatible with both PowerPC and Intel processors through version 10.5 ("Leopard").

Methodology Objective SCOPE Methodology Limitation
To understand awareness, usage of operating systems of Windows 7 Vs Mac X Snow Leopord SCOPE The study is mainly focused on the usage of operating systems by the college students and purchase behavior of operating systems among students. Methodology Research Design : Descriptive research Sample Size : Thirty students taken from various departments of GITAM University Sample Design : Convenience sampling Data Collection : Structured questioners (primary data) and internet. Tools and techniques used : Descriptive Statistics Limitation Limited to GITAM University only, and so the interpretation of the study may not be taken on the basis for other colleges. There was some weak response from the part of the respondents. The time period of the study was also limited.

Analytical Report

Nearly 85 percent of Mac owners also own a Windows-based PC, reports the NPD Group’s 2009 Household Penetration Study.

In India, the barriers for considering a Mac as a college laptop would be:
Unfamiliarity with the Mac platform The price and Being unable to use Windows and Microsoft apps.

A large customer base doesn’t automatically make a market India may have a large customer base, but most of them are value seeking customers. Poor penetration of credit cards

Value mindset: India is a value conscious market. In several product categories, the player who is seen as offering the best value, gets the share of wallet. That doesn’t necessarily mean lowest price. The buying decision doesn’t start from the question: ‘what am I seeking from my laptop?’ but starts from the question: ‘how much can I pack in for this price?’.

BIG QUESTION ???? what can a Mac do, that a PC can’t‘ remains unanswered or wishy washy. Competitive disadvantage Pricing: Apple’s pricing was traditionally way out of whack with what the PC industry could offer. That perception will stick for  a long time with iPhone being launched without a subsidized pricing.

In business circles you may have heard the ‘There is a gap in the market. But is there a market in the gap?‘ Apple is perhaps unable to find an answer to the second part of the question. And the consumer isn’t believing the first part of the question. What a pity.
