Participants are given practical tools of Establish, Implement and Maintain an Environmental Management System based on ISO 14001:2004 standard. DURATION: Five days. COURSE CONTENT: Specific Outcome 1: Give an overview of an established Environmental Management System based on ISO 14001: 2004 Standard: Course participants are taken through the EMS pyramid. Detailed explanation of the EMS pyramid is done at this stage. The EMS Lifecycle Model is explained to participants. Specific Outcome 2: The understanding of ISO 14001: 2004 is instilled to the participants through presentation and intensive review of the standard. The Structure of the Standard is explained. The terms of definitions are explained. The Scope and the Extent in which the organisation must apply the standard during implementation. The various clauses of the standard are explained. Specific Outcome 3: A practical approach in establishing, implementing and maintaining the Environmental Management System is presented to the participants in line with the requirements of the ISO 14001:2004 standard. Practical scenarios are utilized at this stage for the participants to be able to related to their various operations with the requirements of the standard. Participants are taken through the EMS pyramid using the existing SHEQ documentation of the organisation or practical establish relevant SHEQ documentation of the organisation for the purposes of relevancy. Specific Outcome 4: The identification of Aspects and Impacts process and the establishment of EMS objectives and targets process is presented to the participants in detail at this stage. Practical operations of the organisation are used to make live examples during the identification of aspects and impacts. The establishment of EMS objectives and targets is done based on the requirements of the ISO 14001:2004 standard with the participants. The process of development and reviewing EMS objectives and targets based on the identified Environmental Aspects and Impacts is presented to the participants in practical approach. Specific Outcome 5: The process mapping and process flowcharting is explained to the participants at this stage in line with both the requirements of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. The cross referencing of the two standards is also explained in detail at this stage. Organizational operations process mapping is done at this stage. Divisional or Departmental processes are mapped at this stage. Sectional or area specific processes are mapped at this stage. Specific Outcome 6: An overview of legislation which relates to the Environmental Management System is explained to the participants. Guidelines on how to establish and implement the legislative requirements in line with the requirement of the ISO 14001:2004 standard is explained. The effects of legal and other requirements to the organisation in line with the requirements of ISO 14001: 2004 is explained to participants. Specific Outcome 7: Competence evaluation and Assessment of the impact of the course to participants is done from day one up to day three. The process of competence evaluation and assessment of course impact is explained to the participants during day one during the introductions. Participants who were found not competent during the assessment process are advised to seat for another session of the similar course.
