Katerina Georgouli - ISCEST - Skopia-Nis, 30/9-3/10 20025 Studies at the T.E.I. last 8 semesters including the last semester for the compulsory professional placement and the completion of a graduation project (Dissertation). Studies in all departments result in a degree called Ptychio T.E.I., which entitles their holders to exercise their respective professions or to continue their academic studies either to a relative University Undergraduate Course or on post graduate level in the Greek or foreign University Institutions. Studies at the TEI
6
Katerina Georgouli - ISCEST - Skopia-Nis, 30/9-3/10 20026 Professional Placement The duration of professional placements is set at six months for all students and take place after the last semester of classroom studies, when the student has successfully completed the whole curriculum. The appropriate degree-awarding department provides general supervision for the professional placement. The placement is usually arranged within the territory served by the T.E.I. in question. Students receive payment during the practical placement period.
7
Katerina Georgouli - ISCEST - Skopia-Nis, 30/9-3/10 20027 The T.E.I. clearly differ from the A.E.I. (University institutions of higher education) as regards both their role and orientation as well as that of the subjects and the qualifications they offer. Especially, they aim to provide sufficient theoretical and practical training to enable the application of scientific, technological, artistic and other knowledge and skills to the professions concerned. Katerina Georgouli - ISCEST - Skopia-Nis, 30/9-3/10 200210 Department of Informatics The Informatics Department of T.E.I.A was founded and welcomed its students in October 1983. The first graduates of the department acquired their degree at the end of 1987. The graduates and Degree holders of the Department acquire both specialist scientific and technical knowledge of this part of the Informatics science that concerns system software application. The studies last for seven semesters and are completed with an extra six month period of practical exercise in state or private business companies.
11
Katerina Georgouli - ISCEST - Skopia-Nis, 30/9-3/10 200211 Department of Informatics The main purpose of the Informatics Department is to provide its students with a high standard education, that aims to the efficient application of Informatics in every and any professional environment. The main specialization of the graduates was until now software and system analysis, programming and implementation. From this academic year a second specialization that of communications and computation systems is offered as a perspective to them.
12
Katerina Georgouli - ISCEST - Skopia-Nis, 30/9-3/10 200212 Department of Informatics Apart from its educational activities, the Informatics Department participates in Applied Research programs financed by the Greek Government, European Third Degree Institution programs (ERASMUS, TEMPUS), programs that aim to the cooperation of Industry and Education, as well as in programs of Research and Development.

Katerina Georgouli - ISCEST - Skopia-Nis, 30/9-3/10 200227 The Future The main aims for the future are: E-content creation for web-based tutoring and distant learning teaching Implementation of new procedures for a continuous evaluation and reformation of the educational program
28
Katerina Georgouli - ISCEST - Skopia-Nis, 30/9-3/10 200228 The Future The future is promising. The students admitted to the Informatics Department of the Athens Technological Educational Institution collect respectively high grade results (the 2nd higher results between all departments of all TEIs), which shows the great interest that the students and their parents have in the studies in the department and the recognition of its graduates as well established professionals in the market.
