Emerging Breast Cancer Mortality Disparity – Appalachian Story Rates in the TN/VA/KY Appalachian region are also increasing relative to the US rate Mortality rate for women 50-64 has been trending upward against US rate  Crossed above US rate in early 90s  May be trending downward in most recent data, and improving relative to overall state trends as well Mortality rate for women 65-79 is just now crossing the US rate line  If trend continues, there will be a noticeable mortality disparity in all three states in 5-10 years  Appalachian region is trending upward even more strongly than state trends
