How can I avoid Bad Carbs? a. Avoid sugar, sucrose, corn syrup, high-fructose corn syrup! b. Avoid white or wheat flour c. Added sugar products (soda, cookies, cake, candy, frozen desserts, and some fruit drinks) d. A high-sugar diet is often linked with obesity Reading Labels?

The Good Fats: Monounsaturated Fats (MUFAs) Lower LDL cholesterol Increasing HDL cholesterol Nuts Avocado, Canola and olive oil Good Fats Another source of Good Fats are called Polyunsaturated Fats. (Omega 3 ) Seafood like salmon and fish oil Soy, safflower, sunflower and flaxseed oils

What Can We Do? Avoid cooking oils high in saturated fats and trans fats, Minimize use of packaged foods high in trans fats – read labels! Use real butter instead of margarine Use skim milk or low fat milk instead of whole milk Add Omega 3 into our diets
