Intro to Australia Australia is home to kangaroos and the most beautiful and exotic coral reefs. It is also one of the largest places for industries such as mining, food processing, and chemical production.

The Environment From the Great Barrier Reef to the Tasmanian wilderness, Australia in total is 7.6 million square kilometers. Its climate generally semiarid, and tropical in some regions.

Government/Politics Australia, like England, is a constitutional monarchy. Their law system is based on English common law. Australia’s leader is known as Prime Minister His name is Kevin Rudd

Laws and Regulations (including Import Requirements) When importing goods to Australia, it is law to label all products correctly. Bill of lading is required on all freight shipments. There are no special requirements for applying an import license, nor are there any quotas on imports.

What to Wear… When dressing for business, follow these guidelines Men, wear a black/navy suit with a white shirt and tie. Women, a skirt/trouser suit with a white shirt. Sometimes Fridays are considered casual, but some things are NEVER acceptable.

Conduct When traveling in Australia, remember to follow these laws of conduct: People walk and drive on the left Do not call particular attention to yourself Do not use your hand to talk The Australian “v” for victory sign is popular Make sure your palm is facing outward (or else this could mean something vulgar)

Conversation When establishing a conversation with an Australian, keep these tips in mind… Eye contact is respectable Be straight-forward. Do not hesitate to say a polite “no” Beating around the bush is only cause for confusion

…In all In all, it is not easy to impress an Australian. As long as you stay friendly and remain cordial, there should not be a big problem. Enjoy the outback!
