1 Hopkins Summer Emerging Issues in Biotechnology in Australia 31 st May – 29 th June

2 Schedule: Thursday 31 st May: Depart USA Saturday 2 nd June: Arrive Sydney, Australia, orientation Sunday 3 rd June: Day trip to the Blue Mountains Monday 4 th – Wednesday 27 th June: Class each morning with Dr. Selbie. 1-2 afternoon business visits to life sciences companies each week around Sydney Thursday 28 th June: Final exam Friday 29 th June: Depart Sydney for the USA or take part in the optional 4 day trip to the Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest in Cairns.

3 Sunday 3 rd June: Blue Mountains Visit the Sydney Olympic Park, home of the 2000 Olympics before heading to a local wildlife park to pet the koalas and feed the kangaroos their breakfast. After a lunch stop at a traditional Aussie mountain village we stop at the famous Echo Point lookout to see the Three Sisters and hear the local indigenous legends. Next we follow the Giant Staircase down into the only temperate rainforest in the southern hemisphere and follow a trail ending at the world’s steepest railway! The Blue Mountains National Park is also home to the oldest trees on the planet, The Wollemi Pines – but they’re in a top secret location…

4 Company visits: Learn about biotechnology both in and outside of the classroom in Sydney, the oldest and most cosmopolitan city in Australia! This course will provide a global view of the study and applications of biology, biotechnology, medicine, medical devices and commercialization of basic research findings. Students will receive 3 credits.

5 Flights The group flight is available online through Student Universe: www.studentuniverse.com/study/phibetadingo There are two group flights available as follows: Flight option 1: Washington Dulles to Sydney return Flight option 2: for students taking part in the optional trip to Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef: Washington Dulles to Sydney, Sydney to Cairns, Cairns to Washington Dulles

6 The Great Barrier Reef & The Daintree Rainforest Once the program has finished on 29 th June, there is an optional 4 day trip to Cairns.
