Get cleaning! Activity for the 1 st cycle of primary school

Pedagogical intention This LES presents various directed activities in order to sensitise the students to safety pictograms affixed to certain everyday domestic products. A technical capsule on the use of the graduated cylinder, as well as a safety capsule entitled « How to safely smell chemical products » are presented. An initiation to drawing is also broached in this task (construction diagram). Finally, links to other subjects are also suggested.

Activity 4 Diagramming Contrary to technical drawing, diagramming constitutes a very useful and easily used tool. Contrary to technical drawing, diagramming constitutes a very useful and easily used tool. Diagramming is a form of technical language that is less standardised than industrial design.

Diagram principles A simplified drawing that presents the operation of an object. No precisions as to measurements or materials used. Only the forces, movements and links are presented.

Construction diagram A simplified drawing that presents the parts and materials to be used in the fabrication of the object. Links are also presented.

Activity 5 Some suggestions to the students as follow-up to the activities experienced: Create a poster that presents and explains one of the hazard symbols (art/language arts or CIT/language arts); Prepare labels to affix to the containers at home that don’t carry one (following homework); Create a poster that presents how to react when faced with a potentially dangerous product.
