Safety in your Kitchen More accidents happen in the kitchen than any other room in the house. Many of the accidents are a result of carelessness You can prevent many accidents by properly using and caring for equip.

Chemical Poisoning Children are especially susceptible to chemical poisoning. WHY? Chemicals can sometime look like food or drinks BLEACH + AMMONIA = TOXIC chemical reaction Keep in safe location

Chemical Poisoning Keep In original container Do not rely on safety closures Wash all fruits and vegetables Never refer to as candy

Treatment for chemical poisoning Call poison control center Have container with you when you call If label is still on there, read the first aid instructions Follow exactly

Preventing Cuts Keep knives sharp Do not try and catch Use for intended purposes only Wash and store separately No fingers by blade Glass pick up

Treatment of cuts Cover with sterile cloth Apply firm pressure If minor- wash with soap and water IF severe, continue applying pressure to wound and get help Always put band aid and glove on it when working in kitchen

Preventing Burns and Fires Use pot holders Turn pan handles inward Open pan lids away from you Do not let children play around in use stove or oven Use caution when heating liquids in microwave Keep fire extinguisher handy

Treatment of Burns Place under cold water immediately If minor apply ALOE If severe do not break blisters or apply ointment unless given by doctor

Preventing Falls Use step stool or ladder, not chair Wipe up spills immediately Don’t have rugs in kitchen

Preventing Electric Shock Water + Electricity …. Pull by plug, not cord Do not overload electrical outlets Unplug toaster before prying something out Do not use damaged appliances

Treatment of Electric Shock Immediately disconnect power Do not touch victim Use non conducting material Call for help
