ID: The Cold War Date Definition Significance Began 1945 (end of WWII) Ended 1991 (collapse of USSR) Period of tension, but no direct conflict, between US and USSR Affected nearly all international relations Lots of casualties in proxy wars (e.g. Vietnam) Surprise – we didn’t all die!

Three major causes of the Cold War Beliefs – differences in the US and USSR’s most fundamental ideas Resentment – historical reasons why each side didn’t trust the other Aims – each side had different goals for the world after WWII In a group of no more than 3, come up with as many specific examples of each cause as you can
