Property Rights- the right to own property. Protective tariffs- taxes on imported goods that are designed to help the U.S. companies compete in the sale of goods.

Trail of tears- forced on this trail after Andrew Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act of 1830 into law. Transcontinental Railroad- railroad line that linked the well developed railway network of the East Coast with rapidly growing California.

Ulysses S. Grant- commanding union army- won major victories for the union-defeat Lees troops in Virginia and accepted Lees surrender at the Appomattox court house in 1865 Unalienable Rights- rights that cannot be taken away by the government.

Virtue- the quality of what is right and avoid what is wrong. Virginia plan- the Virginia Plan, each state would have a different number of representatives based on the states population.
