ISA Master’s Degree Distance Education Consortium n ISA established master's degree program with participating universities n Program allows students and professionals to take Master's Degree courses through distance learning delivery methods, including internet, videotape, and correspondence n Promotes career development for engineers and technologists in instrumentation, systems, and automation

2.1. Certified Control Systems Technician ® (CCST ® ) Program n Launched in fall 1995 n More than 5000 people have applied for the certification n Last year 600 new certifications n A growing program with big potentials n Could be used also outside NA?!

Certified Control Systems Technician ® (CCST ® ) Program Why a Certification Program? n Promote the professional development of the control systems technician n Provide recognition and documentation of the technician’s knowledge, experience and education n Ensure a high level of skill and competency

Requirements n Applicant must F Have the experiences required F Successfully complete an exam n Experiences F Combination of work and academic experience F Solely work experience F Military experience n CCST has three levels F Level I = 5 years, F Level II= 7 years (2 in instrumentation/m&c), F Level III = 13 years (5 in instrumentation/m&c)

Examinations and Study Resources n Each exam is 4 hours in length n Level I and III Exams F 175 Multiple Choice Questions, Open book n Level II Exam F Simulated practical problems often encountered, Closed book n Resources F Study Guide/each level F CCST Review Course for Level I F Technical Skills Training Curriculum F Technician Book Series

Renewal n Renewal is required every three years n Work experience qualifies if renewal application submitted prior to expiration date n No examination is required for renewal if specific work and training requirements are met

Exam Locations Public Sites n Exam sites in the United States, Canada, and Trinidad Private Sites n CCST examinations can be offered at company sites for 4 or more candidates n Exam site can be open to the public or only for company employees; no site fee for private testing n Contact ISA to arrange a private testing

CCST within D12 ?! Positive experience from the CCST program in the US. There is a big market for the CCST certificate. There should be a market even in the D12 countries

ISA Certified Automation Professional n Certified Automation Professionals (CAPs) program is currently under development n Provides a non-biased, third-party confirmation of your skills in automation. n Will be launched fall 2004 n First market will be North America. Should be available internationally

Requirements n In contrast to the CCST program, CAP requires an academic degree in science and/or engineering (batchelor). n The applicants must pass a written exam n Renewal will be required

Benefits Professionals and Employers n Recognition and a source of pride for those who have the required education, training, and knowledge n Useful in determining job advancement potential n Way to demonstrate to employers a higher level of qualification n Increases motivation to learn more about the broad field of automation and increase job competence

CAP Performance Domains n Domain I: Feasibility Study identify, scope, and justify the automation project n Domain II: Definition identify and analyze customer requirements n Domain III: System Design design, specify and procure the hardware/software use din the control and information system n Domain IV: Development software development and coding n Domain V: Deployment field installation, checkout, and startup of the system n Domain VI: Operation and Maintenance long term support of the system

ISA Certified Industrial Maintenance Mechanic n Certified Industrial Maintenance Mechanics (CIMMs) program is currently under development n Provides a non-biased, third-party confirmation of maintenance mechanics. n Will be launched fall 2004 n First market will be North America. Should be available internationally

Requirements n Like the CCST program, CIMM does not require an academic degree. n Requires job experience n The applicants must pass a written exam n Renewal will not be required

Control Systems Engineer (CSE) Licensure What is Professional Engineering Registration? n Protect the public by promoting the competent and ethical practice of engineering n Conducted by state registration boards n Different from certifications which are sponsored by associations, professional societies

Who Should Register for CSE? n Engineer who understands science of instrumentation and automatic control of dynamic processes n Applies knowledge to plan, design, develop, operate, and evaluate the systems of control n Multi-disciplinary field including electrical, mechanical, chemical, and control

Why Should You Be a CSE? n Use the title Professional Engineer n Place seal and signature on plans, drawings, specifications, and reports n Advertise services to the public n Provide services on public works n Serve as expert witness

Format of Exam n Two 4-hour sessions n 40 multiple-choice questions in a.m. n 40 multiple-choice questions in p.m. n Exam offered in October annually n Contact state board for requirements in your state

2.5. University Accreditation Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) n ISA supports ABET as a Participating Body n Sponsored Program Criteria under Technology Accreditation Commission n Universities/Colleges apply for review based on applicable curriculum
