SAY-Social Advocates for Youth SAY School Based Counseling – SAY provides prevention and early intervention in the following High Schools: Beachwood, Chagrin Falls, CHUH, Shaker, SEL, Orange and Solon. SAY Coalition - The SAY Coalition is a regional group which supports existing prevention programs and new initiatives that strengthen families and youth. The Coalition consists of: schools; families; youth; health professionals; law enforcement; those working in the judicial system; business people; elected officials; and religious and community leaders.

WHY? SAY Student Leadership Council and P4P – We learned it was a statewide epidemic. – We learned that according to the 2009 YRBS 17% of high school students had abused prescription medications without a doctor’s prescription at least once in their lifetime. – Reports from SAY Workers and SAY Parents about prescription drug abuse in the SAY communities. – The students were motivated to be the first youth leadership organization working with Fleishman-Hillard PR firm on behalf of the Ohio Board of Health. – Students wanted to help raise awareness on the issue of the prescription drug abuse epidemic.

SAY Spring Coalition Meeting Prescription for Prevention: Stop the Epidemic Representatives from the Ohio Department of Health discussed the prevention of prescription drug abuse and how to help raise awareness of this epidemic in Cuyahoga County. A local community member shared his journey to recovery and how prescription drug abuse has affected his life. Winners of the Video/Poster contest were recognized.
