#6 - Hahn, Jesper, Ly, Riccardo
2
Problem - 30% of the city traffic consist of people searching for a parking spot For the driver Waste of time and fuel For society Negative impact on local economy and life quality For the government Loss of revenue - The urban population is growing, and so are the problems
3
The Italian Parking System Parking machines Scratch Paper
4
Problems with this System EPA has defined the Italian parking situation as critical
5
Possible Solutions 1. Online parking reservation Only works for private parking spots 2. Satellite pictures to identify free spots Advance recognition technology is needed Costly 3. Smart Garages Real estate space is limited and expensive in the city 4. Temperature sensors Not feasable because of heat differentiation 5. GPS Check in Unstable signal -> Not accurate enough 6. Proximity sensor + base station Inaccurate and low signal range
6
Initial Idea Sensors in each parking spot Drill the road and insert a sensor Detects movement or the presence of large metal objects nearby If the sensor is within two or three feet of the car, it will register a huge increase in metal or object, When the metal or object content suddenly drops, we know a car left
7
Problems Cost Interfererence Time Asphalt unpredictable Require mapping and installation in each spot
8
New Solution Signal free spots without sensors Integration of new application and traditional parking machines

Connections
16
Benefits User Reduce time, fuel and frustration, no fees for late parking (save $) No more coins Car positioning Society Improved environment (local and global) Economic benefits Govenment Increase their revenues More control of the parking situation Less personel needed The cities can price their parking spots according to their actual value
17
What Needs to be Done? City mapping Application development (User + Police) Parking machine development Cloud system development Determine developing costs Establish government contracts Raise funds
18
Difficulties Government are seldom early adopters Mapping the city can be difficult Infrastructure projects take a long time and might be costly Hard to predict user adoption of the system
19
Implementation Plan Year 1 Market research Europe Develop prototypes of application (Mock-up, brainstorming, alpha version) Form a team + feedback First fundraising Beta version of application Machine R&D Year 2 Develop the technologies needed for the machine and application Second fundraising Start establishing contracts with governments Map parking spots for pilot project Establish cloud system Year 3 Pilot project + feedback + iteration Year 4- Start full implementation
20
Q&A Thank you for listening!

Costs Developing Costs Application (Smartphone, Parking Machine, Police PDA) $50’000 Parking Machine (prototyping, iterations) $300’000 Manufacturing cost Parking Machine $400 Maintenance costs $50 per machine and year Other costs
