Welcome to Year 11 RE Revision – every GCSE counts!
2
Some dates for your diary. R.E IS THE FIRST GCSE 2 exams for most students Monday May 11 th 9am – Paper 3 Catholic paper Wednesday May 13 th 1pm – Paper 8 Religion & Society (with Hinduism)
3
A few students will do 1 paper This will be unit 8, the Wednesday paper
4
A few students will do 3 papers These are mainly students who are at risk of gaining a “D” grade The third paper will be on Monday 11 th May straight after Paper 3 It is vital that students realise many of the questions could be similar so they should bring a revision guide and grab 5 minutes to revise what they didn’t know between the exams.
5
Resitters and 3 paper students Only the best mark will be “cashed in”.
6
What is the key to success? Preparation !
7
How to help with RE revision For each of the exams there is a revision guide
8
How to use it There are 4 key points that must be learned for each sub-heading
9
Example of key points: How Catholic Upbringing may lead to belief in God 1. The family will pray together. 2. The child will go to Catholic School 3. They will go to Church 4. They will celebrate Christian festivals
10
What you can do Test your child on these 4 points over and over for every heading IMPORTANT – ask them to develop the idea in a new sentence linked to title Eg: The family will pray together This will lead to belief because they will learn how to talk to Jesus.
11
Get them to draw mind maps We will also give them the mindmap booklets that they have been doing in class They should be able to re-do all of them at home without looking when they think they have revised enough
12
PrayerChurch School Festivals Explain how a Catholic upbringing may lead to belief in God This leads to belief because… This leads to belief because… This leads to belief because… This leads to belief because…
13
Make sure they know their key words – word for word! We have given the ones never asked before on the past paper questions and in the mindmap booklets
14
Next write answers to the past paper questions Start with the Unit 3 highlighted ones Then do the rest starting with 2010 Then 2011 Then 2012 etc.. Make sure they stick to the time limits given on the cover sheet of the questions.
15
What if it’s too much for my child to remember? Just focus on the questions that have never come up before These are the highlighted yellow ones These are the only ones we have put in the mindmap booklets When they know them, try the 2010 questions.
16
What is the worst type of revision? Without doubt just sitting there reading a text or exercise book, even if you are taking notes, will have little impact.
17
So what is the best type of revision? Practice papers Focus on questions not yet asked (highlighted first, then oldest questions) Knowing the 4 key points PRACTISING DEVELOPING
18
If all else fails.. MAKE SURE THEY KNOW WHEN THEY CAN USE THE CHRISTIAN HAND OR THE HINDU HAND THE MINDMAP BOOKLET INDICATES THIS WITH SYMBOLS Christian hand Hindu hand
19
SUCCESS !
