Define STEM
3
STEM education is an interdisciplinary approach to learning that removes the traditional barriers separating the four disciplines of science, technology, engineering and mathematics and integrates them into real-world, rigorous and relevant learning experiences for students.
4
How can you et one gear to turn another gear from the opposite direction?
5
Next week is the start of the holiday shopping season, and your boss would like you to create a window display that will capture the attention of shoppers. She hands you several figurines of angels and a box of toy gears and she says she wants you to create an eye- catching moving display. When you ask her to say more about what she wants, you to do, she just says, “Use your imagination! Just make it great!”
6
LEVERS MACHINES AT HOME Not all long, skinny objects are levers. A lever is a simple machine so to be a lever it must use energy to move a load. Can you find ten levers in your home or classroom?
7
INCLINED PLANES MACHINES AT HOME Find at least three things that screw. Which direction (clockwise or counterclockwise) do they turn to open or get longer?
8
WHEELS MACHINES AT HOME Cars have wheels, of course! Four of them. Wrong! Cars have dozens and dozens of wheels. Remember that rollers, gears, and pulleys are all types of wheels. Find at least five different types of wheels in or on your car.
9
MACHINES AT HOME FRICTION Sometimes when the road is icy, your car might slip. What h We often look for ways to reduce friction. Can you describe one time when friction is useful? as this got to do with friction?
10
Your engineering firm has just spent a week in Brasilia, the capital of Brazil learning about the plants and animals of the rainforest and about how they can develops ways to save the rainforest. On your way home your plane crashes deep in the Amazon, at latitude 2 ½ o S and longitude 60 o W. You must survive the hot, humid terrain using limited supplies and make your way to the nearest city of Manaus to save your team.

Multi-disciplinary approach & Project-Based
13
Assessment & Grading
14
1.Use summative assessment tasks to frame meaningful performance goals for students. 2.Show criteria and model in advance 3.Assess before teaching 4.Offer appropriate choice
15
5. Provide feedback early and often 6. Encourage self-assessment and goal setting 7. Allow new evident of achievement to replace old evidence
