Factors limiting take-up Resources “ controlled ” by librarians Access to networked services “ controlled ” by IT managers who (often) dislike supporting video Teachers/support staff do not know how to use and frequently do not understand movie/audio files – the VHS/DVD culture is predominant
11
Current model … Promotion to Librarians, teacher trainers and Regional Support Centres (RSCs) that communicate direct with teachers/support staff Mixed regional resource/technical events Creation of case studies addressing technical, skills and cultural limitations and concerns Presentation of workshops that focus on usage of video/audio files - copyright anxiety, basic editing skills, integration of files into learning materials
12
… current model Download is the preferred delivery mechanism: sense of ownership and reliability similar to VHS/DVD Eliminates network anxiety and pleases IT managers (some at least): content may be stored and/or streamed locally Still most video file segments are very large and may clash available storage or quota policy Very difficult to audit use!
