2. Many believe that… Religion is the major cause for much of the mental illness in the world. Religion causes poverty and lack of intellectual development. Religion is the antithesis of mental balance and is opposed to clarity of mind.

4. Some say … “Religion has caused more harm than any other idea since the beginning of time. There's nothing good I can say about it. People use it as a crutch.” – Larry Flynt “Paul, you are out of your mind; your great learning is driving you out of your mind.” -- Festus (Acts 26:24)

5. The Bible imparts understanding. It informs man of his origin, purpose, and destiny (Gen. 1 & 2; Ecclesiastes 12:13; Matthew 25:46). The Bible promotes self- examination It provides a standard for self- examination (2 Corinthians 13:5)

6. The Bible reveals the remedy for guilt. God offers true forgiveness when we repent and confess. (Acts 2:38; I John 1:7-9; James 5:16; Proverbs 28:13) The Bible advocates prayer as providing mental and emotional peace. (Philippians 4:6-7)

7. The Bible teaches us to take life one day at a time.  Jesus taught us to deal with the problems of today (Matthew 6:34).  Paul instructed us not to let the sun go down on our wrath (Ephesians 4:26)

8. The Bible promotes positive relationships between people.  Christians are to treat all men with kindness and respect (Titus 3:2)  Interpersonal problems are to be resolved quickly (Matt. 5:23-26)  Vengeance is forbidden (Matt. 5:38-47; Romans 12:19) God provides worthy goals for us.  These goals enhance life and make us better people (Matthew 5:48; Philippians 3:8-14)

9. All things considered, true religion promotes a sound mind, both physically and spiritually -- a mind that thinks clearly and is at peace. It is our best hope for sanity.  Isaiah 26:3 “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.”

10. Rather than make people crazy, the gospel stabilizes Christians and makes them better spouses, children, parents, citizens, workers and members of society. It provides peace that the world cannot provide (John 14: 27).
