1 H. WRITER’S WORKSHOP 1. Getting It Out To write a research report about a topic, first you will need to think of a topic. Use the table to help you think of a topic. My Topic: Why am I interested in it? Why will it interest my teacher and other students? Will I need to do some research? On Location Grade 12 Unit 3

2 1. Getting It Out Make a web and write your topic in the middle. Think of words and ideas that come to your mind. Write them in the web (Mind Map). My Topic: On Location Grade 12 Unit 3

3. Getting It Right After writing your first draft, it is important that your revise it. A good way to revise a research report is to check your report against a set of questions. See the example on the next slide On Location Grade 12 Unit 3

Does each paragraph in the body explain one subtopic, or idea? Does each body paragraph include information that explains the idea? Does my conclusion summarize my ideas? 14 4. Presenting It Prepare your research report in order to present it. Include a few pictures so that your audience can understand it better. Read the notes for presenting on page 65. Sit in groups of 4 to 6. Each one of you should present your research report to the others in your group. On Location Grade 12 Unit 3

15 I. BEYOND THE UNIT 1. On Assignment You are going to prepare a “time capsule”. A time capsule contains objects and information that lets future generations know what your community was like in the period you lived. So if someone finds the time capsule after 1000 years, they will learn much about you. See next slide On Location Grade 12 Unit 3
