3 Oil and Gas North sea oil reserves stand at two billion tonnes of oil – as much has been produced over the last 25 years Scotland’s gas fields contain a maximum remaining reserve of 1330 billion cubic metres Scotland’s oil and gas companies are increasingly exporting their proven expertise to global markets Scotland’s vast experience in subsea technology means Scottish technology is being used to discover new oil fields across the world Scotland’s oil and gas industry generated a record £15.4 billion in export sales from 2008-2009

4 Oil and Gas More than 150,00 people (six percent of the working population) are employed by over 2000 companies in Scotland’s oil and gas Scotland’s oil and gas workforce benefits from five training and research centres

5 Renewable Energy By 2020, The Scottish Government aims to produce 100% of Scotland’s annual electricity consumption and 11% of Scotland’s heat demand Scotland has 25% of Europe’s tidal potential, 10% of its wave potential and 25% of offshore wind resources Wind power is now more common than hydro power as a form of renewable energy

6 Tourism £11bn industry Pays wages of 200,000 people working in Scotland 4 th largest export earner Event tourism is one of the fastest growing industries Sustainable and permanent industry

7 Whisky The whisky industry generates around £4 billion a year It employs around 36,000 people The top five export markets (by value) are: USA, France, Singapore, Germany and Spain

8 Of Scotland’s Whisky regions, Speyside has the most distilleries Campbeltown is the smallest Whisky region and only has five distilleries Whisky is made from three basic ingredients: water, barley and yeast Whisky is made through malting, mashing, fermentation, distillation and maturation It has to be legally matured for three years before it can be sold Whisky
