Grammar Transitive and intransitive Many verbs are followed by an object eg. improve something, pay something, raise something These are called transitive verbs They improve the working condition They paid our invoice. He raised the question of payment.

Intransitive verbs do not take an object. E.g. fall, rise, arise Our profits are falling. Yesterday interest rates didn’t rise. How did the problem arise?
