Welcome to Mrs. Egan’s Kindergarten Open House!

My name is Jill Egan. This is my 10 th year teaching; my 3 rd in kindergarten. I moved to Florida from Michigan when I was 22 and graduated from USF. I have been married for 7 years and have a daughter, Mia, in pre K. I love going to Disney World, visiting family in Mass. and MI, cooking, coffee, crafts, Pinterest, and being outside. I love my students and although expectations are high, the most important thing to me as a teacher is to make sure my kids love coming to school and love learning. Some of my best friends are former student’s parents and I love being a part of my student’s lives far past the 180 days I spend with them. Please contact me at eganj@pcsb.org if there is anything I can do to make your child’s school experience more enjoyable.

Mrs. Egan’s Classroom Rules/School Rules 1.Keep your hands, feet, and objects to yourself. 2.Follow directions the first time. 3.Stay on task. The following star colors are used to let you know quickly how your child's day was: Green = A great day of listening, following directions and being a good friend! Keep up the good work! Gold/Yellow = Warning. Your child had some trouble with listening, following directions or being a good friend. Let's work harder on this tomorrow. Red = Continued acts of breaking rules. Child will use recess or playtime to participate in a reflection process in order to improve behavior. Please sign your child’s calendar daily

 Communication forms are given as a way for teachers to communicate when students are misbehaving. Communication forms need to be signed and returned.  Three communication forms regarding the same problem will result in a disciplinary referral and consequence (lunch detention, etc.).  If a communication form is not returned for PE, your child will sit out the next day.  During PE, your child earns a plus or a minus for each day. If they lose their “plus,” it will be recorded in their calendars. If they lose three “pluses” in a marking period, they receive a communication form. If they receive three communication forms in a marking period, they will sit out of PE for a week.

 Your child has “outdoor play” and indoor “center” time each day. If your child is on yellow, they miss five minutes of play time. If they are on red, they miss the entire play time.

Homework Your child will have two kinds of scheduled homework. 1.Daily Reading Log (10-20 minutes a day) 2.Homework folder This folder will have a phonics (ABC) sheet to practice handwriting and a weekly activity. It will go home on Monday and will be due on Friday. Please have them trace their letters with a finger and a pencil EACH NIGHT. Accompanying the phonics sheet will be a math or science sheet. Occasionally, a small project will be given. Parents, please help your child with their homework, but do not do it for them!
