Types of Software Licenses  Full Version/Release to Manufacturing (RTM) : A license to use all the features of the software  Shareware/Demo : A license to use a subset of the software for limited cost or free. May also give full features but for a short period of time.  Open Source : Completely free to use on as many computers and for as many users as necessary. Includes access to the current source code.  Alpha/Beta/Release Candidate (RC) : A precursor to the next release version of a software package. Will likely contain bugs and is often unstable. Companies release these versions to help find these errors and correct them before release. Use at your own risk!

Software Versions  Numbers are used to represent major and minor upgrades  Major Upgrade: 2.0  Minor Upgrade: 2.1  As version numbers get large, many companies have switched to years (Microsoft Office 2013)  Other Versioning:  Service Pack: A large collection of software fixes.
