Factors leading students and families to ask for postsecondary opportunities Result of success of K-12 inclusion, technology, health care, living with families. Desire to learn and socialize with age-appropriate peers, make friends, have a life! Desire to continue education, improve employment and independent living outcomes. Few other positive options in the community.

USA Higher Ed Opportunity Act Provisions Allows students with intellectual disabilities to be eligible for work-study jobs, Pell grants (loans) and Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants for the first time. Authorizes inclusive and comprehensive transition and post-secondary programs.

S.I.T.E. Program description Self-determination, Independence, Transition & Employment IUPUI & Indianapolis Public Schools partnership (Urban setting) Expanding to area school districts Focus: Transition from school to adult life (‘Dual enrolled’ students ages 18-22)

S.I.T.E. Program description Totally campus & community-based Academic enrichment (Audit university courses) Employment (on or off campus) Independent living Social/communication Public transportation; community access

SITE Program “Audit” select regular classes (e.g., Phys. Ed., computer, education). School of Ed student ‘peer partners’ (service learning requirement of coursework) Use of campus facilities (library, Campus Center, computers, etc.) Students have IU email accounts

The campus provides an age appropriate setting for students to develop their skills. College students provide great role models.
