Earthquake Measurement Summary: A seismograph is an instrument used to detect and measure the strength of earthquakes. The S-P Time Method helps locate the epicenter of an earthquake, but it needs at least three seismograph stations. The Richter Scale measure the energy of an earthquake while the Mercalli Scale measures how much damage is done.
