2. What is Every Woman Southeast?
A coalition of leaders in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee to build multi-state, multi-layered partnerships to improve the health of women and infants in the Southeast.
We seek to foster leadership building and resource sharing, stimulate new ideas, develop innovative partnerships, and promote effective programs and policies for moving the women’s health agenda forward in our region.

Engage a wide range of stakeholders to develop the political will needed to build and sustain an equity focused, life course approach to MCH and preconception health.
Rethink and integrate program and policy strategies to support low income women and men in creating and actualizing their plans for a family
Create a successful, enduring coalition with measurable results.
Put the life course model into practice
Leverage policy and advocacy opportunities to support a strategic approach to improving the health of women and babies.
Capitalize on social media and social capital to promote our messages.
Highlight and build from a strengths-based perspective.
Re-engage business and faith communities.
A series of tools, lessons learned and promising practices that communities can use to broaden their work to include the life course model and preconception health.
Increased momentum and political will across our states for adopting a life course framework and promoting preconception health.
Development of new strategies to work with men and women to achieve their reproductive goals.

4. Reproductive Life Planning Community Grants
GOAL To identify and fund innovative community-based initiatives that seek to work with traditional and non-traditional partners to improve women and men’s capacity to plan childbearing and improve preconception and interconception health using a life course approach.

5. What are we looking for?
Projects that take an innovative approach to increasing reproductive life planning (RLP) among young men and women in their community.
Projects will convene a diverse committee / workgroup and increase awareness in their communities about LC and RLP.
They will target populations with the highest risk for unintended pregnancy.
Projects may be an expansion of an existing program or completely new.
Grantees must be willing to participate in monthly calls with project leaders from other sites and help develop an implementation tool kit.
Grantees will receive considerable support and technical assistance from the EWSE staff, leadership team and their state team.

6. Dates and Deadlines
Applications Due: August 31, 2012 to Erin McClain at
Number of Anticipated Grants: 8 with the goal to have one in each state (AL, GA, FL, KY, MS, NS, SC, and TN)
Anticipated Start Date: October 1, 2012
Anticipated End Date: December 31, 2013
Maximum Award Amount: $43,500 over a month grant period

7. Who is Eligible to Apply?
Organizations that reside in communities in the 8 states of US DHHS Region IV:
Alabama
Georgia
Florida
Kentucky
Mississippi
North Carolina
South Carolina
Tennessee

8. Are there requirements for the teams?
Yes, applicants must show an interdisciplinary team that includes at least one “non-health sector” entity, such as representatives from:
Business community
Housing
Employment
Education
Faith community
Others - this list is not exhaustive

9. Can our proposal be based on an existing program?
Yes, this is acceptable as long as you demonstrate expanded partnerships and an innovative approach

10. What resources will be available to grantees?
Support from EWSE staff and leadership, including help with planning, evaluation and technical assistance
Opportunity to network with other grantees and the larger EWSE coalition to share ideas
Access to tools, webinars and learning opportunities with experts in life course and preconception health
Access to PowerPoint slide sets about preconception health and the life course approach to facilitate presentations to other community groups
Charts and other tools to assist in assessment and evaluation

There are a variety of resources available on these topics. Some are listed here. Others are available on the Every Woman Southeast website.

75% of survey respondents requested a regional website
Main focus is to stay current on what other states are doing and have a contact there. It is also important to have a way to share information about what is happening at a national level.
