CONFERENCE SUMMARY Total number of papers for the Conference167 Total number of Countries7 Total number of Institutions42

What the University of Cape Coast, Ghana and the University of Ilorin, Nigeria have done is to bring scholars from the continents of Africa, Europe and North America from across all the disciplines (from Archaeology to Zoology) to put their heads together to discuss an issue that is of global concern.

CLIMATE CHANGE AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT The papers at this Conference have discussed at length issues of Climate Change and Sustainable Development and highlighted their effects on the life of people on planet earth. Some of these are shown in the slides that follow.

GREED / EXCESSES OF HUMAN BEINGS Human beings on the other hand are also architects of waste and contribute to the negative effects of climate change. If we all use what we need from the environment and not over do things perhaps this will help in reducing some of the negative impacts of Climate Change on our collective development. These are depicted in the following slides:

 Curriculum renewal at all levels of education to include topics in Climate Change and Sustainable Development. The multidisciplinary nature of the subject matter makes it flexible enough to be taught at all levels and in more than one discipline.  Total education of the people to make them aware of the consequences of their actions or in action in matters relating to Climate Change and sustainable development. THE WAY FORWARD

 Actionable policies by Government should be put in place to reduce the negative effects of global warming.  South-south collaboration to put more pressure on the North to be more responsive to the planet earth.  A conscious reduction in the emission of green house gases.

 Establishment by the two Universities (UCC and UNILORIN); of Centre/Units to handle issues relating to climate change and sustainable development and coordinate activities/efforts at combating the phenomenon.  Development of coping mechanisms to make people adapt to the effects of climate change in their environment.  Establishment of Climate Change Clubs in our institutions to create more awareness.

Participating at this Conference, has resulted for many of us cultivating either or both academic or partnership friendship. No doubt the problems of Climate Change and Sustainable Development are trans-disciplinary and such demand that the approaches to them must be trans- disciplinary in nature. The onus is now on us to take back to our respective institutions and resolve to make the earth a better place than we found it. CONCLUSION

The path to greatness is along with others.

There's no lone hand in the game we play, the thing that counts in the world to-day is, How do you pull with the team?

Thank you the Local Organising Committee and the International Organising Committee under the able leadership of Prof. K.L. Ayorinde and Prof. D.D. Kuupole for a job well done. Thank you all dedicated staff and students of University of Ilorin APPRECIATION
