Health and Nutrition Hydration: It is MANDATORY to have a water bottle EVERY DAY!! Eating nutritious meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner and healthy snacks) are very important!

PHYSICAL FITNESS TESTING Given four times a year. Sept. to establish baseline. End of each trimester/included in grade. Worth up to fifty points. Testing on: pull-ups, sit-ups, step-ups, incline push-ups, and 6 min. jog/run.

Physical Education Framework Standards Standard 1: Students demonstrate the motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities. Standard 2: Students demonstrate knowledge of movement concepts, principles, and strategies that apply to the learning and performance of physical activities. Standard 3: Students assess and maintain a level of physical fitness to improve health and performance. Standard 4: Students demonstrate knowledge of physical fitness concepts, principles, and strategies to improve health and performance. Standard 5: Students demonstrate and utilize knowledge of psychological and sociological concepts, principles, and strategies that apply to the learning and performance of physical activity. In middle school the content standards emphasize working cooperatively to achieve a common goal, meeting challenges, making decisions, and working as a team to solve problems.

PE Standard Examples: Manipulative Skills: Volley, strike, dribble, throw. Rhythmic Skills: Perform, develop & demonstrate. Combinations of Movement Patterns & Skills: Combine speed, direction, & pathways to play a game. Movement Concepts: Explain, analyze, diagram, provide feedback. Self-Responsibility: Participate, productivity, self- evaluation. Social Interaction: Cooperative activities. Group Dynamics: Analyze and problem solve.

Grading Criteria Scholastic Based on 25 points per week Dressing out every day Circuit/exercise/warm-up effort Fully participate in all activities P.E. testing once trimester Total points given weekly Effort to ability level Extra Effort = Bonus Points Citizenship Sportsmanship Group cooperation Attentive to instruction Self control Locker room behavior Punctuality Following directions Character Counts

Grading Scale 94%-100% A 84%-93% B 74%-83% C 64%-73% D Below 63% F With Bonus Points earned many students score above 100%.

PE Homework: Work on sit-ups, push-ups & pull ups if possible. Weekend walks, jogs and hikes are great to work on your cardio! Bonus Points: Extra circuits, before/after school help, and showing proof of participating in a community wellness activity.

Procedures Locker room Place backpacks in specified area only Keep lock locked on locker when leaving locker room Dress quickly; tuck in shirt, no jewelry, tie shoes Use the bathroom Treat others with respect Hands & feet to yourself Keep voices down Pick up trash MAY NOT RE-ENTER W/O PERMISSION Class time Be on time to class Watch countdown clock; no tardies from lap Do all circuit activities Report to roll call on time Sit correctly (hands/knees) Respond to whistle and signals Treat equipment with respect 100% effort & ability – 100% of the time Follow directions “May I please” and “Thank you” are words used in PE!
