5 GISD Technology Proficiency  Required Training Hours Per Year (12)  Required by State and NCLB  Proficiency Level 1 Requirements  MEETING THE REQUIREMENTS WILL BE NOTIFYING YOU OR CERTIFICATE FROM FORMER DISTRICT  REQUIREMENT FOR ALL STAFF WILL BE NOTIFYING ALL STAFF- PURCHASING NEW ONLINE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

8 How to Locate Your User, Public & Computer Assignment Folders  Double click on the My Network Places icon on your desktop  Double click on Entire Network > Microsoft Windows Network > Admin

9  From the Admin location you can navigate to your campus server if needed.  Ball High School is at Ball-campus  Crenshaw is at Bolivar_campus  Alternative school is at Alt-campus  Middle schools are at Middle-svr  Elementary schools are at Elementary-svr

10  When you have entered the server, look for your campus name unless specifically listed above. Double click on the folder needed. * School name and Users (Oppe Users) lists all private folders for your campus. When opened, double click on your name to open your user folder. * School name and Public (Oppe Public) lists all public folders for your campus. When opened, double click on your name to open your public folder. * School name and Lesson Plans will be where your lesson plans are saved. * School name and Computer Assignments will be where you place computer assignments for your students to use.

13 Logging On  See handout  Importance of security  Change your password from “Password09”  Lock your computer when you walk away from it – Control-Alt-Delete buttons on the keyboard  Log off if you use someone else’s computer  Shut down at the end of the day

You signed an Acceptable Use Policy.  You can access your school e-mail account remotely. (Either via www.gisd.org/mail or through Remote Access.)www.gisd.org/mail Outlook has other features!!!

15 Implementation of Student Email  www.Gaggle.net  To facilitate communication between students and teacher  Gaggle is a filtered site for schools.  Introduced initially to secondary schools.  Elementary Rollout this year.  Teachers will have an account and have option to have email forwarded to gisd email.

16 SchoolWires Teacher Webpages  Goal – Every Teacher in GISD will have an active website  Secondary schools with sites posted – Austin and Ball  Secondary school that will be initializing sites this year- Weis  All elementary school teachers will receive training and post websites this year.

29 IT Tips  Use the small group instructional model to individualize instruction  Use your LCD projector to model new skills before having students complete them. Use LCD projector to project communications with other classrooms and video conferencing.  Use Webpages to post assignments  Use gaggle.net to communicate with students- Have students send assignments via the drop box.
