6 Writer’s Workshop Mini-lessons: focus on skills, what makes good writing Write with choice: students choose what to write about much of the time. Genre Studies –Poetry –Persuasive writing –Letters –Personal narrative –Essays –Reports –Scientific writing

7 Word Study 12 Units consisting of: –Spelling lessons –Language and vocabulary lessons –Dictionary and thesaurus lessons –Units are done between September and May. The teacher decides when and how long for each unit. –A post-test is given, but the main focus is studying the spelling patterns and word usage.

10 STEM Specialists that work with us Field Studies FOSS Units –Variables –Environments –Simple Machines –Landforms STEM activities blended into themes and all curriculums. The line between curriculums has blurred.

Read! –35 - 45 books this year Develop independent work habits –Homework varies depending on the day –Projects assigned to practice time management and meeting long term deadlines. Organize Materials –Use a binder to organize assignments and papers –Keep a clean desk and work area Develop homework skills Complete Assignments –Assignment card signed weekly

16 Report Cards Three Trimesters Report card sent in December, March, and June Rubric Scores: –1 = Limited –2 = Developing –3 = Proficient –4 = Exemplary
