4
Aims of the Survey The survey was designed with the objective of exploring what resources Medical Schools across the UK are currently using in their clinical communication teaching. But also to establish a ‘wish list’ from clinical communication educators which might include resources that were seen as missing from those which are currently used and available.
5
UK Consensus Statement: Used as a framework for the survey
6
Format of Questions Posed under each theme a: In current use? What resources do you currently use in your teaching of clinical communication skills? It would be useful if you could provide as much detail as possible about the source of materials. For example, website addresses, links and whether the material is copyrighted or not. b: Other resources? Do you know of any other available resources in this area? Please add details here and any knowledge of copyright. c: Wish list? What type of resources/materials would you find useful for teaching clinical communication in this area that are not currently available?

Wish List Resources suggested for teaching consultation tasks and skills Video clips which specifically demonstrate particular skills, designed to demonstrate specific skills (in contrast to UKCCC E-learning package, where skills have been highlighted) More videos of students performing consultations as opposed to experienced doctors to demonstrate common problems experienced in consultations
12
Wish List Resources suggested for teaching consultation tasks and skills A larger bank of videos (perhaps shorter as UKCCC videos too long) from different clinical contexts e.g GP, psychiatry More video clips using a diverse group of patients and clinicians. More up to date videos A central bank of videos
13
Resources suggested for teaching consultation tasks and skills Further on-line resources offering examples of specific tasks: explaining a procedure /diagnosis, gaining consent, breaking bad or difficult news, inter-professional conflict. More material that focuses on integration rather than the 'list of skills' approach More staff! Wish List
