We use comparative Adjectives to compare 2 things…
2
Desktop ComputerLaptop Computer
3
Eg: big A desktop computer is bigger than a laptop.
4
Eg: light A laptop computer is lighter than a desktop.
5
Eg: expensive A laptop computer is more expensive than a desktop.
6
Eg: powerful A desktop computer is more powerful than a laptop.
7
If the adjective has 1 syllable, we add –er. eg: big bigger fast faster old older
8
If the adjective has 2 or more syllables, we usually use “more + adjective” eg: powerful more powerful expensive more expensive handsome more handsome
9
If a 2 syllable adjective ends in y, we use “+ier” eg: friendly friendlier happy happier easy easier
10
Other words are irregular eg: good better bad worse
11
For multi-word adjectives, we use “more”. Eg: up to date more up to date user friendly more user friendly Notice… friendly friendlier user friendly more user friendly
12
We have to remember to use the verb “be” Eg: The laptop is lighter than the desktop. We have to remember to use “than” Eg: The laptop is more expensive than the desktop. Never use “er” and “more” Eg: The laptop is more lighter than the desktop. (X)
