What Hardware should be checked? u Mainframes - IBM, Tandem, Amdahl u Mid Range - AS/400, VAX, HP, DG u PCs - IBM Compatibles u Workstations - Sun and other UNIX boxes u Embedded Systems - PLCs - elevators, fire systems, batch controllers u Communications

How do you check Hardware? u Inventory your equipment u Ask your vendor for certification u Make and model number isn’t enough u Use a BIOS and RTC Checker such as PC Check u Replace hardware which can not be taken off-line for testing

What Software should you check? u Operating systems -MVS, VM, Unix, VMS, Novell, Windows u Custom built software - in-house or contractor developed u Third party packaged software - Spreadsheets, Accounting Packages u Databases - DB2, Oracle, Access, xBase

How do you check software? u Inventory your applications. u Ask your vendors for certification. u Use tools to scan and fix date problems. u Prepare testing plans. u Test the fixes in separate environment. u Monitor the fixes in the production environment.
